Speech Acts Analysis in Barry Jenkins’s Film Mufasa The Lion King

Abstract

Speech Acts are part of pragmatics, which are often contained in literary works, especially films. Mufasa the Lion King is one of the films that contains many speech acts, which are essential to explore the purpose of this study is to analyze the types of speech acts contained in the film Mufasa The Lion King by Barry Jenkins using George Yule's theory (1996). The research method used is descriptive qualitative which collects information from articles and books as well as data from the film Mufasa the Lion King using George Yule's theory of five types of speech acts, namely declarations, representatives, expressives, directives, and commissives. From the research that has been done, it was found that the most common type of speech acts in the film is Expressives (33.3%), and the least type of speech acts is declaration (6.7%)
