Analysis of Satire in Michale Jackson’s Songs

Abstract

The use of satire in Michale Jackson’ s songs is very often found in subtle, harsh, or abstract satirical sentences. The messages in songs are very diverse and make songs more expressive with moral messages contained in satire. The objective of this study is to explore how satire used in Michle Jackson’s song to criticize social and authority system in his era. This study uses descriptive qualitative approach to explore the use of satirical lyrics in Michale Jackson ‘s songs.The findings of this research reveals that the most satirical lyrics of Michale Jackson’ s songs convey economic inequality, systematic injustice, manipulation by the media, racism and discrimination, institutional oppression, corrupt authority and abuse of power, the decline of human values, human hypocrisy toward life , invasion of privacy and unfair judgment , the fears and anxieties shared by people today. The prevalence of Horatian satire 41.38% in these results indicates that the most typical style to criticism in lyrics is delicate, empathetic, and introspective. Horatian satire allows singers to address major societal concerns without using excessive rage or violent words. Criticism is delivered as a moral call to listeners to examine and analyze themselves, using rhetorical questions, simple metaphors, and compassionate imagery.
